A few details
Some details show the difference that ‘oiling out’; which is to say separating layers of glaze with a clear layer of medium, brings back the depth to colours and this must be take into consideration when applying darker glazes which tent to sit on to of the layers below and flatten them.
Nearing the end
This is one of the final stages. Here I have added further glazes to the sky and depth to the rose bush, but it still looks too flat. The whole composition in fact is still too flat and requires that I deepen some of the shadows around the figures.
